Last year we had a sorry attempt of a garden. The husband didn’t want anything to do with it so it was just me and the kids. And our attempt was pitiful, but we did get a few fresh peppers and tomatoes. Now since the husband has gotten a taste of the fresh produce he is all on board this year. We planted peppers, tomatoes, broccoli, cauliflower, cabbage, onions, strawberries, lettuce, Brussels Sprouts and cucumbers.
The animals from the woods have taken a liking to my tasty vegetable plants. They have eaten everything in the big garden except the tomatoes and peppers. The cucumbers may survive but I am not holding out hope for the broccoli, cauliflower, Brussels Sprouts or the cabbage. Next year we will have a fence. The worst part about it is that the garden had been planted for at least 3 weeks before the animals decided to feast.
The husband is more than willing to stand guard with his rifle and “take out” anything that even looks like it is breathing on the garden. I, of course being the animal lover, told him absolutely not. He does have a loaded BB gun though and will pelt them in the ass if they get to close. I am OK with him scaring them away but that is as far as it will go. There will definitely be a fence from the beginning next year.
